International Conference

Foundations and Applications of AI: Interdisciplinary Perspectives

8–10 April 2022

Peking University, Beijing, China (primarily online)

Deadline of Submission

11 March 2022

Notification of Acceptance

15 March 2022

Please submit abstracts or papers, in English or Chinese, to ssg@pku.edu.cn; also include (1) name, (2) affiliation, and (3) an indication of whether you will be in Beijing at the time of the conference; feel free to add any comments or questions. Submitted texts can be of any length. Authors of accepted submissions will be invited to present and discuss their work in a 30-minute session. Individual research to be presented at the conference need not have an interdisciplinary focus, nor is it necessary that authors explicitly address ‘foundations’, but the presentation during the conference should be aimed at an interdisciplinary audience.

Theme

This conference will bring together leading experts and aspiring talents from various disciplines working on artificial intelligence, with the specific aim of creating an exchange between theoretically and practically oriented specialists. The focus of the conference is therefore twofold: namely, on theoretical issues concerning the foundations of AI as well as on practical issues concerning its applications.

To this end, research presentations will include some of the latest advances in engineering and programming, cutting edge research on corresponding legal, ethical, and governance issues, as well as work in psychology, sociology, cognitive science, logic, and philosophy.

Format

In the space of two and a half days, the programme will comprise up to 30 contributed presentations in addition to a number of invited ones. The conference languages will be English and Chinese. The conference will use the online-meeting software Zoom.

The conference aims to attract a large global audience through public livestreams and video uploads on YouTube, Bilibili (‘Chinese YouTube’), and other platforms.

Invited speakers

1. Herman Cappelen, Hong Kong University

2. David Chalmers, New York University

3. Pedro Domingos, University of Washington

4. 段伟文 Duan Weiwen, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

5. 葛鉴桥 Ge Jianqiao, Peking University

6. Timnit Gebru, Distributed AI Research Institute
