Artificial intelligence, as the core technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is unleashing tremendous energy resulting from the accumulation of technological revolutions and industrial transformations. It is exerting significant and far-reaching impacts on economic development, social progress, and the international political and economic landscape. Based on the needs of national development strategies and in the face of the forefront of international scientific and technological competition, we are striving to grasp the development trends of intelligent science and achieve a leap-forward development of intelligent disciplines.

In 2019, Peking University established the Institute for Artificial Intelligence (PKU-IAI) as a university-level entity to promote advanced interdisciplinary research in artificial intelligence. In 2021, Peking University established the School of Intelligent Science Technology (SIST) and designated "Intelligent Science and Technology" as a discipline in the "Double World-Class" construction. In September 2022, on the 20th anniversary of the construction of intelligent disciplines at Peking University, the Ministry of Education officially classified "Intelligent Science and Technology" as a first-level interdisciplinary subject, and the National AI Deans Forum was held at Peking University. As the creator and leader of China's intelligent disciplines, the individuals involved in intelligent research at Peking University have always adhered to the spirit of "broad-mindedness and pioneering spirit," working together with the nation and the people.

Our mission is to coordinate relevant resources across the university, support cross-disciplinary research of Artificial Intelligence, facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange among various departments and research units, and serve as the primary interdisciplinary research platform.

We warmly extend an invitation to students and teachers from diverse countries and cultures to join us at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Peking University. Together, we can engage in academic communication, drive social progress, and build a community unified by a shared vision for the future.
