Center for Habitable Intelligent Planet

Director: Professor Jianwei Ma

Overview:

The Center for Habitable Intelligent Planet (abbreviated as CHIP) aims to establish a multidisciplinary research and talent development platform in the fields of artificial intelligence, earth, space, energy, and the environment. By integrating artificial intelligence with deep earth exploration, remote sensing, geographic information systems, ecological civilization, and decarbonization, the center strives to overcome key core technologies in intelligent spatiotemporal analysis and contribute to the sustainable development of smart cities and the Earth. It establishes a new system of artificial intelligence-based oil and gas geophysics to serve the country's major needs in resource exploration. Leveraging the strategic cooperation agreement between China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and Peking University, the center develops smart oilfield technologies. The center aims to reveal the mysteries of the Earth's internal structure and dynamics, build new theories in artificial intelligence-based seismic research, develop earthquake early warning and prediction systems, and explore new disciplinary growth points in planetary geology and planetary mining.
