Dr. Huihui Zhang is a research assistant professor at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the School of Information and Communication Engineering, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2010, a Master’s degree in Science from the Department of Psychology (now the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences), Peking University in 2013, and a Ph.D. from the School of Psychology, the University of Sydney in 2019. Before joining the Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Zhang was a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences, Peking University between 2019 and 2024.

Dr. Zhang's research focuses on the temporal aspects of human cognition through an interdisciplinary perspective that spans fields like psychology, neuroscience, and information theory. She employs diverse methods, such as psychophysical experiments, neuroimaging techniques, and mathematical modeling, to investigate how the brain adaptively processes information. Her work aims to uncover fundamental principles and neural mechanisms of human intelligence and to develop brain-inspired AI algorithms. Her research topics include the temporal dependencies of cognition (e.g., active inference across time in dynamic environments), the role of neural oscillations in brain functions, and time perception.
