Professor Li Yang is a Phd supervisor and an Erasmus Mundus senior visiting scholar of the European University Committee. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the Fine Arts Education Professional Committee of the China Association of Higher Education and a member of the First National Higher Education Fine Arts Teaching Guidance Committee. His main research focuses on European film history, film theory, and Western art theory. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Paris-Dauphine, France. He previously served as the Dean of the School of Literature at Northeast Normal University and the Director of the Professor Committee. He has received the Huo Yingdong Young Teacher Award from the Ministry of Education and has been recognized as an Excellent Talent of the New Century. He has undertaken and participated in 7 projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, Education Humanities and Social Science Fund, and Beijing Social Science Fund. He has published over 40 papers in journals such as "Literary Studies", "Film Art", and "Contemporary Cinema". He has authored books such as "Gesture in Leone's Western Films: An Introduction to the Analysis of Film Movement Language", "Ethics of the Gaze", and "History of Cult Films" and translated works such as "Exiting the Dark", "On Cinema", "Leone's Past", and "Close-Up: Abbas and His Films". He is the chief editor of the "New Cult Film Series" and has published 14 academic translations, including "The Tolerance of Gray Dawn". He has served as a film selector for the Shanghai International Film Festival, Beijing International Film Festival, FIRSR Xining Youth Film Exhibition, Chinese Youth Image Forum, and Hong Kong Fresh Wave Short Film Festival. He is also a co-initiator of the "Cult Film Spirit Award". As a producer, his feature film "Normal Breathing" was nominated at the 64th San Sebastian International Film Festival. Since 2018, his research focus has shifted from film history to film philosophy and image theory, with a particular interest in experimental film history, essay films, video art, and game studies.
