Zhan Siyan obtained a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Beijing Medical University and a Ph.D. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After completing her Master's degree in 1989, she has been teaching at Beijing Medical University and currently holds the position of Professor. In 2004, she obtained the qualification of Ph.D. supervisor and was appointed as a senior-level professional in the second-tier position in 2016. Currently, she serves as the dean of the School of Public Health, the head of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Peking University School of Public Health, the director of Key Laboratory of Epidemiology of Major Diseases (Peking University), Ministry of Education, the director of the Research Center of Clinical Epidemiology at Peking University Third Hospital, the deputy director of the Peking University Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine, the deputy director of the Big Data Center for Health and Medicine at Peking University, and the director of the Center of Post-marketing Safety Evaluation PUHSC (CPSE).


Zhan Siyan also holds various leadership positions in professional associations and committees, including being the chair of the Professional Committee of Pharmacoepidemiology of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association and the chair of the Association of Epidemiology of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association. She is a member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the National Medical Products Administration (Expert Advisory Committee on Drug Safety and Risk Management) and the Expert Advisory Committee of the National Immunization Program. She serves as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Chinese Journal of Pharmacoepidemiology and deputy editor of the Chinese Journal of Epidemiology, as well as being a member of the editorial boards of multiple journals. She has contributed as the chief editor for the seventh and eighth editions of the textbook "Epidemiology", the chief editor for the second edition of the textbook "Clinical Epidemiology", and the joint editor for the second edition of the textbook "Pharmacoepidemiology". She has translated and authored several books, including "Evidence-Based Medicine: How to Practice and Teach EBM", "Textbook of Pharmacoepidemiology", and "Developing a Protocol for Observational Comparative Effectiveness Research". She has undertaken multiple research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology (China) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. She has been awarded the third prize of the Science and Technology Award from the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association (2013), the third prize of the Science and Technology Award from the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association (2013), the third prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award (2013), and the second prize of the Huaxia Medical Science and Technology Award (2013). 2016 she received the 17th Wu Jieping - Paul Janssen Medical & Pharmaceutical Award and was awarded the title of Excellent Teacher in Beijing in 2017, Excellent Party Affairs Worker of Beijing Municipal Education and Work Commission in 2020, Advanced Individual Award of Beijing in Combating COVID-19 in 2020. She also obtained a special government allowance from the State Council. In 2021, as the chief editor, he won the First National Textbook Construction Award (second prize) and the Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Special Prize nomination Award.
